The Cut

The wet dock was cut in 1893 during the ownership of the boat yard, exactly by the boundary between the bird sanctuary and the boatyard which was not settled until 1990. The yacht in the scene was built at Brentford by Henry Gastell, the previous owner of the yard on the backwater. The Cut goes right across the island but it is blocked in the middle by a dock and a piece of garden.
